Our mission predates mainstream ESG, uniting advocacy with analytical rigour to embed sustainability into investing. We focus on driving structural change through sustainable, long-term value creation by investing in resilient companies that we believe are positioned to deliver attractive returns, at the same time as delivering positive impact to world challenges.

Heritage

Founded in 1996 we were among the first to recognise the power of sustainability in shaping long-term investment value.

Rooted in Academia

Born from a university–industry–superannuation partnership, at Monash University in Australia. Combining academic rigour, fiduciary responsibility, and evidence – based approach which we continue to uphold today.

Foundations of Constructive Engagement & Stewardship

1996-2009

Born from the principles of universal ownership and long-term value creation, Regnan emerged from pioneering ESG research at Monash University and Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation.

1996

Founded at Monash University as the first ESG research centre in Australia.

2005

Founding member of Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) and Regnan established itself as an independent voice in ESG research and engagement.

2007

Pendal becomes founding owner and key client of Regnan (1/8 ownership)

Scaling Stewardship

2010-2019

Strategic mergers expanded capability and reach. Regnan built Australia's largest ESG research and engagement platform serving asset owners and managers worldwide.  

2010

Stewardship became embedded at scale, supported by growing research depth and international reach

2015

Pendal increases ownership to 50%

2019

Regnan fully owned by Pendal, deepening strategic alignment

Active Ownership and Resilient Systems

2020-Present

From research to impact. Regnan launched dedicated impact strategies, that enable purpose-driven investing and systemic change, pioneering resilient systems investing through thematic expertise and active stewardship.

Our Philosophy

Regnan’s investment philosophy is centred on the organising principle of Systems Resilience.

 

This approach emphasises the ability of financial, social, economic, and ecological systems to withstand shocks, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain core functions, highlighting the qualities that enable robustness under uncertainty and non-linear change.

 

It advances beyond narrow ESG metrics by evaluating the resilience of business models, operations, value chains, and market structures against diverse stressors – ranging from climate change and geopolitical shifts to technological disruptions – promoting a focus on long-term viability and the capacity to sustain and create value in an unpredictable investment environment.
